The Majestic Palace: The Furniture and Royal Life in the Qing Dynasty

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, furniture production ushered in rapid development, and reached the pinnacle during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. The furniture in the imperial court, as the epitome of traditional Chinese furniture, have been exemplary in terms of form, craft, material, and other aspects. The Shenyang Palace Museum has a collection of over 800 pieces of furniture and wooden exhibits from the Qing imperial court, most of them used by the imperial court in the mid- and late Qing Dynasty. According to historical records and documentary paintings of the imperial court, the exhibition displays combinations of furniture of various types. With over 100 cultural relics in 10 modules, the exhibition shows the life of the emperors and empresses of the Qing Dynasty, covering main types of traditional Chinese furniture for purposes including partitioning, sitting, carrying, and storing.
